Video Game Consoles of the 1990's
These are some of the many consoles of the 1990's. From left to right these are the consoles released in order (Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, PlayStation, and the N64). Some consoles released during the time but not pictured are the 3DO, Atari Jaguar, and Sega Saturn. The Genesis was Sega's best console to date. It used cartridges and marketed itself as a mature console. This was a marketing effect to go towards the SNES which was Nintendo's second console. These two consoles went head to head and many had their fanboys. Go later in the 90's and you have the release of the PS1. This was PlayStation's first console and it sold about 100 million systems. That was incredible for the time and the console was very advanced. It used CD's and had a dual analog stick controller. To fight back against the PS1, Nintendo released the N64. The N64 was the last console to use cartridges. Since they used cartridges many companies decided to not make games for the consoles because of less space. This was one of the reasons why the PS1 was much superior then the N64. We also the release of the Jaguar which was Atari's last home console.
